Our Story

It started with a care package

I was working in finance. Great success, but wrong feeling. So I left. Around the same time my girlfriend moved to the US, and I started mailing her care packages with a little piece of home inside. There was always bread, because the bread she bought here was making her sick. That's where Vollkorn began.

A Carry-On Full of Bread

She started sharing the bread with her friends, and they got it right away. Every time I flew over I packed more, until my carry-on was basically a bread delivery service. People kept asking where to buy it. The answer was nowhere.

Sharing Good Food Is Being Home

Growing up in a French-German family, the time spending together while sharing food is the most important thing. For my family clean ingredients have been the most important thing.

Starting My New Passion

So I made my new hobby my passion because real European bread shouldn't be something you can only get by flying it over in a suitcase. So we built Vollkorn: slow-fermented bread from independent German bakeries, frozen at its freshest and shipped to your door. Good bread doesn't travel well, unless you do it properly.
